Performing Arts Hub Norway, together with FuturePerfect, bring presenters, producers, and artistic directors from both Norway and Europe together with their North American counterparts to examine contemporary Norwegian performance, networks, and opportunities for future collaborations.
This half-day meeting explores how Norway’s independent performing artists research, innovate, develop, and disseminate their work within a complex framework of government agencies, established cultural institutions and festivals, as well as individual and private efforts. Who are the critical Norwegian producers, presenters, curators, scholars, festival directors, and artists working in the field of contemporary performing arts? How do they work, strategize, fund, and advocate? Who are their international partners and collaborators? Under what conditions, for whom, and with what results have these partners created programming involving artists from Norway? What are the challenges of foregrounding Norway, or any particular geographical region, as a curatorial strategy for organizing artistic programs? What other models exist? Are there ways for us to organize our efforts so we are maximizing resources, building upon, and strengthening these cultural exchanges and opportunities with Norway?
The meeting brings together eleven Norwegian artists and companies, and forty international presenters, curators, producers, and festival directors to the Scandinavia House in New York City.
Contemporary Norwegian Performance, Networks, and Collaboration is made possible, in part, by support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York.
