NEW INC, an incubator and not-for-profit platform launched by the New Museum in 2014, approached FuturePerfect to be involved in the second year of their mentor program. Through this program, FuturePerfect is working with two exciting projects, Indigo Grey by brooklyn-based creative collective Hammerstep, and Icarus by Bolivian filmmaker Rodrigo Bellot.
Hammerstep uses high-intensity choreography, cutting-edge technology, and nontraditional audience engagement to express their limitless imagination through dance, inciting positive change in the communities they embrace. Hammerstep is developing a site-specific, immersive theater experience titled Indigo Grey. Indigo Grey explores a post apocalyptic future set in the fictional 6th borough of New York. The performance will feature a choose-your-own adventure style format in which the audience members will become characters and walk through the space, fully enveloped by animated projection mapping, responsive and interactive tech elements, the group’s signature style of dance, and a live and original soundscape.
Rodrigo Bellot is an award-winning writer, director and producer originally from Santa Cruz, Bolivia. He is known as one of Bolivia’s most prominent international visual artists; he has exhibited all over South America, won the Bolivian Art Biennial in 2005 and 2009, and was nominated twice for an Academy Award for Best Student Film in 2000 and for Bolivian entry for Best Foreign Language Film in 2004.
In 2012, Bellott founded Bolivian BOLD Inc., his production company in New York. He has been a guest lecturer at New York University, Columbia University, the University of Amsterdam, Ithaca College, and numerous film schools in Latin America. Bellott recently published his first book, TU ME MANQUES, an adaptation from his own play, which became the biggest box office and critically acclaimed play in recent Bolivian history.
